Staff Strike Action - 1st February 2023 (Update 3)
You may be aware from media coverage that the National Education Union (NEU), have declared strike action over several upcoming dates, the first of which will take place on Wednesday 1st February. The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over teachers’ pay and conditions, and not because of any issues at our academy. Other teaching unions have directed their members not to cover lessons of other teachers who are on strike.
Following the completion of a risk assessment, The Link Academy will remain open on Wednesday 1st Feb to Year 10 and Year 11 ONLY. Attendance for Y10 and Y11 is compulsory. The only exception to this is our PALS+ (Griffin Street Site), which due to staffing ratios, will be closed to all learners on this day.
Year 8 learners who are attending the Bletchley Park Trip, will still attend and this trip is still going ahead as it has been paid for and transport has been booked. The appropriate staffing ratio has been met to allow this trip to proceed.
Based upon our current estimates of staffing levels, Year 7, 8 and 9 learners will be required to stay at home on Wednesday (unless they are Y8 and on the school trip). Learners in these year groups will be able to access additional work on Bedrock and SPARX, our English and Mathematics online platforms.
We are sorry about the disruption to your child’s education. We understand that this situation may be frustrating and ask that all members of our school community continue to treat each other with respect. As I am sure you can understand, it is vital that we are able to support learners that are in examination year groups.
